- ➤ A West Des Moines refugee said his wife and children remain in eastern Afghanistan after a 6.0 earthquake hit just before midnight on Sunday, cracking their family home and turning neighbors' houses to rubble. His nephew said the damage means the home must be completely rebuilt and the Iowa Afghan Community and Culture Organization will hold a prayer vigil—he added that being away from his loved ones has increased his stress.
