CRIME NEWS

  • Iowa State University police were busy on Saturday when the Cyclones defeated South Dakota 55—7 by issuing 16 citations for underage alcohol, making 3 arrests for public intoxication, ejecting 13 fans from Jack Trice Stadium, and handling 122 first aid calls and 2 ambulance rides—reminding fans to drink safely.  KCCI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Prince Haakon, second in line to Norway's throne, will visit Iowa next month — making stops in Decorah and two other cities as part of a tour marking 200 years of Norwegian immigration. He is scheduled to arrive between Oct. 6 and Oct. 9 — a key date for celebrating local heritage.  KCCI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Iowa is running the Iowa 529 contest during College Savings Month where five students will win $1,000 for their college savings—winners will also receive an extra $1,000 to donate to a school of their choice and must register by Sept. 30.  KCCI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Steps of Hope Iowa gathered outside the Capitol last Sunday evening to display the faces of more than 1,700 overdose victims and honor loved ones while calling for better access to naloxone—officials helped install free naloxone boxes around Iowa. On Sept. 27, the group will take the painted headstones to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to mark overdose awareness across the nation.  KCCI
