Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 12th of July.
Good morning, Ames.
🌲 Environment
The Sierra Club Iowa Chapter released a report Wednesday that warns Iowa’s wildlife habitats are at risk from land loss and fragmentation and calls on the Legislature to support wildlife corridors—efforts that can help maintain genetic diversity.
The report says Iowa has lost most of its prairies, wetlands, and woodlands since 1833—showing the environmental cost of extensive agricultural use.
🏥 Health
On July 1, Iowa Medicaid ended the Integrated Health Home program that helped Medicaid members with mental health conditions — replacing it with Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics that will offer mental health and substance use services to all who seek care.
Some participants worry the new system may not provide the same personalized support as the old program.
