COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two groups of young Iowans were honored at the Statehouse on Thursday with the John Lewis Youth Leadership Award (established in 2021) for their work on civil rights. Elijah Smith, LaTreyal Oliver from Waterloo and Iowa City West High School (Black Student Union) received the award, and Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said they must keep fighting for change.  KCCI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Yesterday morning, firefighters and ISU staff used heavy equipment to move hay bales so that crews could reach burning material inside the Dairy Barn at the 52400 block of 260th Street—just southwest of the Ames Municipal Airport.  KCCI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On the first weekend of summer, the Iowa DNR advises residents to avoid nine beaches—including Backbone Beach, Beeds Lake Beach, Black Hawk Beach, Blue Lake Beach, Bobwhite State Park, Emerson Bay Beach, Nine Eagles Beach, North Twin Lake West Beach, and Pine Lake South Beach—due to high E. coli levels that could pose health risks.  KCCI
