- ➤ An 18-year-old Ames man, Kamren Matthew Schmidt, who had been on probation after stealing three vehicles in March, was arrested Thursday for multiple burglaries on the west side after a doorbell camera captured him taking thousands of dollars in items — he now faces charges of second-degree theft and third-degree burglary. - ➤ Ames City Council approved a three-year plan to reduce homelessness in Story County after a 20% increase was seen over five years. The plan lists nine recommendations to boost housing and support services—officials say it will help meet growing community needs. KCCI
- ➤ Gov. Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday that starting Jan. 1, 2026, SNAP benefits can only be used to buy non-taxed items—such as bread, eggs, fresh produce and meat—while taxed items like soda, gum and candy will be off limits. KCCI
