Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 3rd of May.
Good morning, Ames.
🎓 Education
On May 1, Iowa educators gathered at more than 70 sites, including 12 in Des Moines and a rally on the Goodrell Middle School lawn, to protest public education cuts and policy changes that they say will hurt students and schools.
Leaders warned that these changes, which include shifts in funding and stricter immigration policies, will damage Iowa's education system—prompting calls for stronger legislative support.
🏈 Sports
The NCAA disciplined five Iowa State football support staff for placing over 6,200 bets totaling more than $100,000—each accepted a one-year show-cause order and must attend a Regional Rules Seminar if hired by another school.
The resolution came after a state investigation into wagering at campus athletic facilities from 2021-23.
