- ➤ Ninety Iowa veterans flew from Eastern Iowa to Washington, D.C. Tuesday on the 54th Eastern Iowa Honor Flight to view memorials honoring their service — they returned around 9:15 p.m. for a welcome home party. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Portion of Welch Avenue is closed for a months-long construction project—city crews are replacing pavement and improving underground utilities from Chamberlain to Hunt Street. Officials say the road may remain closed for 2 to 3 months while pedestrians can use a marked detour. KCCI
- ➤ The Senate passed House File 299 by a 32–16 vote and it will require schools, child care centers and colleges to include vaccine exemption information in their communications about immunization requirements. The bill was sent to Governor Kim Reynolds on Tuesday to ensure honesty in school vaccine policies after reports of false vaccination claims. KCCI
- ➤ The City of Ames revealed a three-year plan to address homelessness at a town hall on Monday evening. The 51-page study by Analytic Insight recommends more case management, expanded shelter capacity and a peer navigator program — city officials will use private partnerships and state funding in fiscal year 2025-26.
