  • A restaurant in Ames called Mullets closed permanently due to unforeseen circumstances less than a year after opening in July 2024 in the space that once housed West Towne Pub — the owners had hoped to expand the franchise across Iowa, where three locations are now operating. This development marks an unexpected end to the Ames spot despite early plans for growth.  KCCI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Iowa House passed the K-12 school funding bill for the 2025-2026 school year, which raises state supplemental aid to 2% and boosts per pupil funding by $157 along with adding a $5 increase to the state cost per pupil and a 5% boost for transportation equity funding, bringing an extra $238.1 million to schools. The bill follows lengthy negotiations between both chambers and now awaits Governor Kim Reynolds’ approval.  KCCI
