  • An associate professor and a Ph.D. candidate at Iowa State University patented a new babydoll nursing bra to help new moms avoid pain when breastfeeding. The design earned its patent in November — the first such patent at the university and another patent is pending approval later this year.  KCCI

CRIME NEWS

  • Stanley Hardin, the grieving father of 23-year-old Stashaun Brown fatally shot amid group gunfire at a private event in October 2021, and his family have offered a $1,000 Crime Stoppers reward—hoping to encourage someone to provide information on the unsolved incident.  KCCI
  • Ames police arrested a fourth suspect in connection to a deadly shooting on January 18—Parker Stoneburner was shot in an apartment and later died while police issued a first-degree murder warrant for 19-year-old Nashawn Green, who was found in Minnesota and is held in Dakota County jail, with three others charged.  KCCI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iowa lawmakers approved a bill that would require able-bodied adults on the Iowa Health and Wellness Plan to work 80 hours a month to keep their benefits if signed into law. The bill passed the Senate 33—15 and the House 61—35 and now heads to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ desk for her signature.  Local 5
